It's been a year since I started swimming lessons at Dongjak Samil Swimming Pool,
so I'm going to write a review and summarize the pros and cons.

First of all, 1 year of swimming lessons certification! So proud!
I took the 7pm class for 10 months and the 9pm class for 3 months.

Dongjak Samil Swimming Pool Facilities (with personal opinions)

• 5 adult lanes, 25m, 11m children's pool (2 lanes, no lanes)
  
  
  • No steps on the bottom: Personally, it was easy to learn because there were no steps to raise the bottom.
    (It's inconvenient to have steps when doing butterfly/underwater swimming... However, for beginners who are afraid of water, it's not a bad idea to have steps.)
  • Width per lane: Compared to other places I've been to,
    It was narrower than Pangyo Sports Center/Daejeon Yongwoon International Swimming Pool, but similar to Sadang Cultural Center.
    It felt a little narrow for swimming lessons, but it wasn't bothersome.
• Electrolysis system using natural sea salt
  • It's a little salty because it uses salt.
  • But it was so good that my hair didn't get damaged after attending for a year. My skin didn't feel that damaged either.
    
    
    

Pros and Cons

• Pros:
  • Low tuition: Mid 30,000 won per month
  • 10% automatic discount for women aged 12-55 (early 30,000 won per month with discount applied)
  • Clean facilities opened in 2020: All the facilities below are kept clean.
    • Shower room
    • Swimming pool
    • Closet
    • Hair dryer
  • No members who make others uncomfortable: Personally, I felt that everyone was polite and seemed to exercise diligently and leave.
  • Lifeguard deployment: There is one lifeguard during the class, so I feel mentally secure...
  • Friendly guidance desk teachers: Even at 9 pm, there are usually one or two teachers, so if you have any questions, they will answer them sincerely.
  • Immediate improvement when requested: When there was a shortage of luggage racks in the shower room, they changed them to 2-tier luggage racks. When there was a shortage of showers, they added one more shower head. And they also sent out regular surveys to see if there were any inconveniences.
• Cons:
  • Fierce competition for new registrations: It's really hard to register for a new class...
    • I've never tried swimming in the early morning, but even at 7pm, it's really hard to get a spot even if you register on the same day.
    • The 9pm class is relatively intermediate to advanced, so there are often cancellation tickets that you can grab.
    • New registrations are difficult because the price is low and there are not many existing members leaving.
    • However, once you register for a new class, you can retake the same class afterwards, so you don't have to apply for a new class separately.
    • But... I've heard that other swimming pools also have difficulty getting spots in popular times because existing students don't leave, so it seems like it's not just a problem with Samil Swimming Pool.
  • No class transfer:
    • If you want to change classes after applying for a new class, you have to apply for a new class again.
    • It would be nice if people who have already applied could change to a different class if they want to.
  • Insufficient teachers:
    • Because the price is low (?), two teachers take care of 5 lanes (1 teacher per 2 lanes, 1 teacher per 3 lanes), so
      it's not a structure where they can individually look at each student in detail. Of course, they try their best, but,,,, you have to grow through a lonely fight with yourself by listening carefully to the teacher.
    • Beginners seemed to have a lot of teacher changes.
      (But when I hear about other swimming pools, it seems like beginners often change teachers... I guess it's because they have to pay more attention to them.)
  • Insufficient shower room:
    • The shower room is sometimes insufficient for the number of students, so you have to wait.
      If there is a class after yours, both the students who have finished their class and those who are preparing for their class have to line up at the shower room, so
      sometimes you have to wait in line even at the exit of the shower room, so you have to wait a long time.
      Especially after the 7pm class + the 8pm class. (However, when I took the 9pm class, there was no class afterwards, so I could shower without waiting.)
  • Ambiguous location:
    • It's in an ambiguous location for those who walk, so you have to take a village bus,
      but Dongjak village buses don't have frequent intervals, so you have to wait a long time.
      • However, there are Ttareungis right in front of it, so if you are taking a Ttareungi, you can use it to get there.
    • But for those who have a car or live in the neighborhood, it doesn't seem like a drawback at all.

Conclusion

Despite all these drawbacks,
low tuition fees

Low tuition fees!!!!

Low tuition fees!!!!!!!

are the overwhelming advantage, so I've been satisfied and will continue to be so!
And it's nice because it's cleaner than other swimming pools and the water quality is good.
So if someone asks me, I think I would recommend Dongjak Samil Swimming Pool to others.
